Mindbloom Trauma Coaching empowers individuals to reclaim their emotional well-being. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), or tapping, is often highlighted in research and by other experts as a transformative method blending ancient acupressure principles with modern psychology. While we don’t use this tool directly, its stress-reducing and emotion-processing benefits inspire our commitment to helping individuals overcome emotional challenges.
What is EFT Tapping?
EFT tapping involves gently tapping on specific meridian points across the body while focusing on a distressing thought, emotion, or physical sensation. These meridian points are areas used in traditional Chinese medicine to channel energy flow, and tapping on them while addressing your emotional or mental challenges can help regulate the body’s nervous system. EFT is increasingly recognised as a therapeutic practice that rewires the brain’s response to emotional triggers, fostering a sense of calm and relief.
How EFT Tapping Can Help You
Life can often feel overwhelming, especially when past traumas or unresolved emotions take hold. EFT tapping is a practical tool that can be used to:
– Alleviate stress and anxiety
– Address fears and phobias
– Manage emotional pain or trauma
– Improve self-esteem and self-acceptance
– Cultivate a sense of calm and clarity
At Mindbloom Trauma Coaching, we guide our clients through this process, creating a safe and supportive environment where they can explore and release their emotional burdens. EFT is not just about healing; it’s about empowerment. It’s a tool you can carry with you to create emotional balance whenever and wherever you need it.
How to Practice EFT Tapping
The beauty of EFT is in its simplicity and accessibility. Here’s how to get started:
1. Identify Your Issue
Choose a specific issue to address, such as anxiety, fear, or a recurring negative thought.
2. Assess Your Discomfort
Rate the intensity of your discomfort on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the most intense.
3. Create a Setup Statement
Develop a statement that acknowledges the issue and affirms self-acceptance. For example, “Even though I feel anxious, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
4. Begin Tapping
Start tapping on the key meridian points while repeating your setup statement or focusing on your issue. Common tapping points include:
– Side of the hand (karate chop point)
– Eyebrow
– Side of the eye
– Under the eye
– Under the nose
– Chin
– Collarbone
– Underarm
– Top of the head
5. Reassess and Repeat
After a round of tapping, reassess the intensity of your discomfort. If it has decreased, continue tapping until you feel a sense of relief or the intensity drops significantly.
Why EFT Works
EFT works by calming the amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for the fight-or-flight response. By combining the act of tapping with focused attention on an emotion or thought, EFT helps to rewire the brain’s reaction to triggers, creating new, healthier pathways. This makes it particularly effective for addressing trauma, stress, and emotional pain—areas we often focus on during our coaching sessions at Mindbloom.
